The painting had been mentioned in the artist's diary in 1854, for a long time it was bidden the Paris Gallery Georges Petit and in 1927, an art merchant Georges Bernheim took possession of it. From the latter owner the picture was purchased by Max Silberberg, at the very latest in 1930. Then it got to the collection of the Cozziga Family (Greece, Egypt) and to unknown private owners afterwards. The painting was offered on aution by Sotheby in London on June 13, 2006. Its sale was preceded by an agreement between the contemporary owners and Max Silberbergs descendents, on the ground of the Washington convention.
