The painting was probably acquired by Gustav Adolf von Ingenheim during his journeys to Italy. Around 1870 the painting was moved to new family residence in Reisewitz. After splitting the collection between three brothers, Rudolf, Harald and Manfred (grandsons of Gustav Adolf von Ingenheim), the painting was given to Harald von Ingeheim. Together with other works of art forming his part of the collection it was deposited in das Schlesisches Museum der bildenden Künste prior to 1939. In 1940 or 1941 the part of the Ingenheim collection belonging to Harald von Ingenheim was taken over by his younger brother Manfred. He sold this painting to Special Order Linz (Sonderauftrag Linz) in 1941. After the war it was exhibited in Munich, then in 1981 it became a deposit of German government at Landesgalerie in Hannover
