Description of the collection:

The fascination of French art, which can be noticed in publication by Muther, influenced also the profile of his collection, whose treasures were the paintings on canvas by Pierre Bonnard, Gustave Courbet, Camille Corot and Honoré Daumier. In the possession of Muther were also the painting on canvas by William Turner, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Narisse Diaz de la Peña, Carl Spitzweg as well as the drawings by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Benjamin Vautier. Muther was, apart from Hugo Kolker, one of the earliest enthusiasts and collectors of contemporary art in Breslau (both collectors owned the paintings by Edvard Munch). The paintings from the Muther's collection were often rented for exhibitions. E.g. a painting on canvas by Daumier was presented at the monographic exhibition of the painter in Vienna in 1908. Three years after the collector's death ca. 30 paintings from his collection were put up for sale in the Viennese Galerie Miethke.
